My rating here isn’t necessarily a reflection of how I may have felt about this book at another time, but during the chaotic uncertainty of life right now, I found this one incredibly depressing and a chore to get through.

Like 2.5ish stars..I was expecting more from this, I think. I wanted to love it. Descriptions of mother/daughter relationships, religion, cults, even witches really called to me...but it fell flat. There were times I thought I had missed pages or even whole chapters because there were huge gaps where you'd think some things would be explained (How did Stringy go from bringing her the phone to being someone who'd pick her up on the side of the road? Were they talking/texting frequently? Why would he come?). I also think the character development was really lacking but still I persisted since there was kind of a mystery shrouded here and I wondered if it would ever rain. Disappointed!
