Goodreads is deleting my review on purpose, so here we go again. This is a badly military "romance" book about two boring white people with no chemistry.

⭐⭐⭐.5 It was good and would recommend to most.

This was such a cute small town romance and I had a really good time listening to this. It felt similar to Rootbound by Tarah Dewitt which I loved.

Sophia returns to her home right for her grandmother's funeral but she's been asked to stay a bit longer until the will is read. There is immediate tension between her and Brax which of course creates a fun dynamic between the two. Eventually she starts to fall in love with being in the town, working on the family ranch and reconnecting with her family and friends.

I love a romance with angst and this had that, these two hated each other but were so purely attracted to each other. I will say I felt like I didn't feel their romantic connection was very strong but this is a short book so that is to be expected. I really enjoyed all the side characters there was so many cute funny moments with everyone involved. When the truth about why Sophia left came out she did forgive her mum quite quickly but I feel like that is warranted. This is a great book that shows flawed and human parents really are, I think as children we think that parents are perfect but they never truely are.

Tropes: small town, hate to love, opposites attract, nicknames (princess)
Triggers: family drama, loss of a loved one

A great start to a series that will undoubtedly give all the feels.

I loved getting to watch the H and h slowly change the preconceived notions and feelings they each had towards one another right from the start. It made for some great angst and deep emotions, but they were all handled in perfect depth.

The world and character building were wonderful and the plot and character dynamics in this books were unique in such a good way—I wish there were more books out there similar to this dynamic. Both narrators did a wonderful job bringing this story to life for listeners.

I don't know what it is about @authoramberkelly's writing, but once I started this book, I could not put it down. BUT don't go into this thinking it's just a sweet, small town romance. I was sobbing for the first 30%, and I still couldn't put it down. These characters went through so much before this story even started, and you just felt so bad for them, but especially Sophie. She was braver than I probably would be if I were in her situation.

I loved the back and forth between Brax and Sophie, and how everyone would just give it to them straight. If they were being assholes, they were called out. And the tension between the two? Whew 🥵 I wouldn't say this is high on the spice scale, but you don't miss it with this book. The plot and the tension still make it *chef's kiss*

I don't know if I'll make it through the whole Poplar Falls series before ApollyCon, but I'm gonna try!
