imma give this a 3.75/4 rating, the ending really made it for me, the first 75% of the book had some real good and interesting stuff and some stuff i just wasn’t jiving with… but the ending kinda fixes it— ish

Nope. Writing style was annoying. Too over dramatic and uses gory metaphors that aren’t necessary and makes it hard to know when something bad actually happens to the main character. I thought the Claremont house burning was also a metaphor when it was first mentioned. Too many names, there’s the immediate family, extended family, the five dogs, the houses, the stores they visit, they even have names for groups of people like the liars and the goldens. I got a hang of it later but it was confusing and annoying. If my friends didn’t tell me that everything goes down at the end I would’ve dropped it way earlier. Wouldn’t read again. Waste of time.

If I could give this book ten stars, I would. I could not put it down, cried through its ending, and wish only that I had never read it, so I wouldn't have to feel the empty hole it has left now that I have finished it.

I read this book for one reason only:

In the seven years since its publication, despite seeing it all over booktube, booktok and in my local stores, I had never once heard a spoiler nor even known its general premise. To go that long without hearing the twist ending and actively avoiding spoilers meant that I HAD to finally read this book. It was fine, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I’d read it for the first time when I was younger? It also reminded me a lot of a book you’d read in a year 7/8 English class.

2.5 stars is probably a more accurate rating. Again, the book was fine, but the writing style annoying the living daylights out of me.
