It’s a typical Laymon you either love it or hate it. I find it entertaining so I love it. Some parts are questionable but it’s part of Laymons charm as a writer.

5 former college friends get together once a year to go on a road trip, each year a different person picks the destination. This year Helen has taken them to an old abandoned lodge in the middle of nowhere, a creepy spooky place where they start feeling that they are being stalked.
Rubbish! Most of the book is flashbacks to the fun and frolics at college and sex on their previous trips together. Bo-ring. It's more like a sorority party than a horror novel and despite sharing the stories of the girls, you just can't bring yourself to give a damn about any of them, especially Fin. The back story was just pointless. So back to the lodge and all I cared about was how each one was going to die! A totally crap book with no redeeming qualities.

I love a good Laymon novel, and can say that this is now among my favorites! This was a strange one in that, while you had your typical Laymonesque B-movie craziness, there is also a lot more character development than he usually delved into. It was like he wanted to try his hand at some "chick-lit" but just couldn't get away from horror. This was the story of 5 ladies, friends since their Freshman year in college, who set out once a year for really crazy hijinks, and always manage to skirt disaster. That is, until they go camping at the closed down Totem Pole Lodge. The Lodge has a gruesome history which will come back to bite the ladies in the arse: and then some!

If you like Laymon, you should love this story! If you've never read Laymon but love cheesy B-movie horror where the characters tend to do really ridiculous things (ooh there's a killer about, let's go swimming), and can appreciate reading some of the most amazing dialoguing skills in modern fiction, then this is a book for you!

A group of girls had off to an old abandoned lodge in search of their yearly adventure. Things turn bad though when they notice a young lad watching them as they take a dip in the pool. Helen ends up dead and they're fooled at first by Jim, the lad that was watching them, into thinking that his mad, bad creepy brother had killed her, and was planning on doing the same to them.

Well, how wrong could you get? And it doesn't help that they go upsetting a particularly crazy guy(?) called Batty, who begins attacking them with his curses and eventually tries to kill them too. They don't have much luck these girls.

It all ends well though, as you'd expect I suppose. I really enjoyed it, not least because I always look forward to following any of Richard Laymon's female characters, and there are five of them in this book, complete with many, many wonderful descriptions of them in various states of undress. what more could anyone ask for?

Recommended, particularly for Laymon fans, or 80s style horror, which his novels always remind me of.

The first 400 pages of the book sucked me in and had me craving what was next. It was so hard to put down. But some of the characters and commentary were odd to me. Maybe I’m reading into it too much but I feel like you could tell a male wrote their perspectives. Also the ending fell flat for me. I feel like I seen it coming a mile away and was just really hoping for something to knock my socks off after the lead up. I was pretty disappointed with the ending but nonetheless the book kept me reeled in for 85% of it. I just thought it would have ended with more of a bang.
