being a black women is frustrating at times when you're in an area full of whiteness.

Robyn Thomas uses her skill with words and art to share a little bit of her experience of life.

Art and poetry. Poetry and art.

It’s important to read about people’s experiences that differ from ours - it’s what creates empathy and helps us all grow closer as people.

And when it’s done with such gorgeous art - the whole book is a lovely piece of art in itself - it makes it that much more of a joy to experience.

The Saddest Angriest Black Girl in Town is based on a true story: Smith's own story, one forged in the whiteness of a small Vermont town. It is a very short graphic novel, maybe even closer to a zine. I don't think it needs to be longer, though I think it could be a strong segment of a longer autobiographical work, should Smith ever so choose. My full review is available here.
