Bring Me Back

B.A. Paris

3.27 AVERAGE

This is my fourth B. A. Paris book, and I’ve loved all of them! Until this one. I don’t feel like I ever got invested in the characters, and the “twist” was just strangely executed in my opinion. I was disappointed in this one after Behind Closed Doors, The Break Down, and The Therapist.

So if you adapt certain mannerisms, lose weight, color/cut your hair... You can fool someone you'd dated (and lived with) for a year into thinking you are someone else. That someone else being your sister. Maybe a year isn't a long period of time in the grand scheme of things. But... I'm not sure that catch is realistic or plausible.
Finn and Layla have been dating for a year when she disappears. Presumed dead by some. Finn seems to have given up hope. He starts dating her sister Ellen after some years go by. They've also been together for a year. Layla has been missing for 12.
Finn has anger management issues and moved away after an incident with a high school girlfriend. A little over a decade later he's made something of himself. He still has anger issues. He becomes consumed with a younger woman who seems lost and haunted. She becomes his everything. Then she goes missing after one of his episodes.
My question is... The very elderly neighbor knew Layla and Finn didn't?
OK.
2.5 stars.

I’m honestly not sure what to think of this one. I loved B.A Paris’ previous books, so I was very eager to start reading this. The beginning seemed promising and had me hooked, but eventually the plot became so ridiculously unrealistic and over dramatic that I began to lose interest. There was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming however, and there were parts of the story that I enjoyed. Overall, it wasn’t bad, but not one of my favourites. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that Paris’ next novel is on par with her first two. 🤞🏻

I'm really confused on how I feel about books by B.A. Paris. Behind Closed Doors was beyond fantastic and I gave it 5 stars, but I disliked The Breakdown and I gave that book only 2 stars. When I saw that she had a third book coming out I really wanted to give it a try with the hope that it would be as good as Behind Closed Doors. I hate to say it, but Bring Me Back was a bit of a disappointment for me. I feel very in the middle about it.

#Meh

The book is a fast-paced and enjoyable read, however the ending is too predictable and it seemed quite abrupt and rushed to me. Bring Me Back had such great tension, but it all led up to an ending that I didn't care for. Also, I thought that all of the theories the MC Finn came up with throughout the novel were just weird and not plausible. The idea that I had from early on in the book turned out to be the case. That left me feeling dissatisfied. Perhaps I've read too many thrillers lately? Overall Bring Me Back was okay for me. I think that somebody who doesn't read a ton of thrillers (or likes the enjoyable ride more than the twist) would like this one a lot more than I did.

#PredictableAndRushedEnding

What a twisty story! Finn's girlfriend disappears and he is the prime suspect. 12 years later, when he is about the marry her sister, Layla reappears. Or does she? This book keeps you guessing and leaves you satisfied.

I wouldn’t say this book started off “slow”… more so, familiar…. or so I thought. At the beginning, we’re introduced to Fin, who admittedly.. is not that likeable, insecure (albeit for good reason many times), with an anger problem. Then we have Layla… who, other than her apparent “beauty”… there’s nothing really endearing or “special” about either.. other than Fin says so. She’s missing and yet… she doesn’t seem like an innocent…

It was giving very much GONE GIRL… for me in the beginning.

I could not have been more wrong.

Shocking plot twist? Eh… but there was definitely a twist and then a nice little curve ball at the end.

Solid 3 stars from me.

Decent writing, but I didn’t find any of the characters believable.
