This is my first time winning an advance copy book and I couldn't be more pleased it was from B.A. Paris! I have to admit, I went into this a lot more critical than the Breakdown. Now that I know just what types of twists and turns could be coming, I was looking for every breadcrumb dropped along the way. It's a quick read, and escalates a little more slowly than I would like, but I still couldn't put it down. I highly recommend you bring this back home with you. (See what I did there? Yea, that's why I can't be an author. This is what I find funny. Or punny, if you will.)
I think I hated the main characters (Ellen, Finn & Layla) at least 4 different times throughout the book and then there were times I felt for them. This book is messy and fucked up. It touches on topics that aren't really brought up often (at least in the books I read anyway). It's dark and full of suspense & has you thinking a million different things. This book had so many twists and turns that I didn't see the ending coming. AT ALL. I was shocked to say the least. BA Paris did a good job with this. **TRIGGER WARNING - maybe?** I was in an abusive relationship and was abused for 4-5 years, I normally avoid books that touch on that topic. Going into this I had no idea it was going to get that dark. This book was too bad compared to others but I'm glad the topic wasn't overly done.

Twelve years ago Finn’s girlfriend, Layla, disappeared from a rest stop on their way home from vacation. In his statement to police, he said that Layla was in the car when he stopped to use the restroom. When he got back she was nowhere to be found. His phone wasn’t getting a signal so he drove to the nearest gas station to ask for help. It was the truth, but not quite there whole truth… Twelve years have gone by and while Layla still hasn’t been found, Finn has found himself in love with Ellen, Layla’s sister. Their relationship is a bit rocky, she is Layla’s sister after all, but things take a turn when Finn proposes to Ellen. Layla returns. Without spoiling the book, I will say that this one is a page-turner! I enjoyed the story telling going between “then” and “now” as it gave a better understanding on what did happen with Layla and Finn! At times it was a bit far-fetched, but it kept me reading until the very twisty end!

When I picked this book up I was in the mood for a thriller-- heart-pounding, edge of your seat, thriller. That isn't exactly what I got. I still definitely would call this a thriller and there were moments that were creepy or elicited an "Ohhh" from me. So, a different type of thriller than I was expecting.
This was such an interesting read. I thought I knew who the villain was and then changed my mind-- even on the crime! In fact, I didn't have things figured out until almost 2/3rds of the way through the book. Which is a decent amount of time for me to have fun deciding what is going on. The twists aren't all over the place and the suspense, for me at least, was constantly there (albieth a low tide).
I think what bothers me the most is the secrets... I don't see why people would keep things secret from their partners, so I just kept rolling my eyes at how he was sharing what was going on with people outside of his future-marriage. Like... if you can't count on your potential spouse, then why even be with them?
And the big plot twist... just didn't work for me. Perhaps I'm tired of this trope? Or I've just read some really REALLY good ones that use it, but I will say that the last line of the book made me think better about the trope useage and brought a smirk to my face.
This is one I would recommend to people who like thrillers or want something not as intense, gory, or murder-filled. This one is pretty tame, so I think it can be read by a wide variety of people.

I read this book because I book critic that I usually agree with and who’s recommendations I trust said that this was the best book from this genere that she had ever read.
Sadly I guess it’s impossible to always agree with someone.
The book is a 10/10. More face paced than any other I ever read, a total page turner and there are plot twists after plot twists. But… I wouldn’t say it’s the best book of this genere that I’ve ever read.
I guess the same book speaks to us differently, depending of what is going on in our lives, how are we feeling, what are our goals…

I was really disappointed in this book. I’ve enjoyed Paris’s other books but not this one. By the end I could see that this was an interesting and new twist on a thriller. It was just done so poorly. Most of the writing was so melodramatic and soap opera-y. It was really annoying.
