1) I'm a self-help book junkie; 2) I've already read and liked Barbara Sher's "Wishcraft"; and 3) given my current situation, any book geared toward how to unearth and move toward a career path that really reasonates with me - given the above, this one was really a slam-dunk for me. I especially like that Sher provides specific chapters to address the issues for different kinds of resistance and/or obstacles.

Bit interactive and I would prepare some paper for notes and some exercises. I think it was really helpful and it's a super easy accessible read. It outlined exactly how I feel and explained how to overcome it. Absolutely wild that it's still relevant when it was written before I was born.

Had to read quickly. Some useful exercises.

I thought id give this book a ago, even though it was written in the 90s but it just really doesnt relate to modern (and pandemic) times. It also doesnt really offer much for people who REALLY actually dont know what they want. The author uses the rhetoric that everyone has a dream and something they want to do deep down and so misses the point of the title of her book completely.
Dont bother.

I can't believe I'm saying this about what is essentially a self-help book, but this was absolutely amazing.

I honestly can't even begin to touch on how helpful it was just to read it. I read it through my library's ebook program and I found myself saving big chunks of text so I can go back to it later and do the exercises.

Books like this are supposed to be terrible. I figured it would just have some quizzes on how to figure out what you like, tell the readers that we're just afraid of success and to get out of our own way, and that would be it.

Barbara Sher did NOT take the easy way out. In every single chapter she would say something like "Does that sound like you? If so, here are some ideas. But wait- do you have this even trickier problem? Don't worry- I've figured that out too!"

I feel like so often when I've read books like this I'm like "right...well, that advice would work in a totally ideal situation, but definitely not for me"...but Sher covered her bases...there's almost no excuse not to succeed with this book. I feel like she's thought of (and thoroughly addressed) everything.

I have some seriously jacked up life situations that have caused MAJOR issues for me when it comes to deciding on a career path and actually following it through. Maybe I should have only really identified with one or two of the chapters- like...maybe most people find themselves as a certain "type" of person with a specific "type" of issue. ...not me. I found myself deeply identifying with nearly every chapter. Not only am I a jack of all trades when it comes to my skills, but I seem to be a jack of all trades when it comes to life-ruining problems. But like I said- this book addresses just about everything.

I didn't go through the exercises...I mostly did quick mental versions and saved the pages so I could do them at my own pace since it was a library book, so I can't really review how effective it was...but honestly, given the number of times I sat there totally dumbfounded and super, super encouraged, I kind of feel like it's obvious it'll be enormously helpful.

SERIOUSLY happy this book exists. Once I start going through the exercises and making a bit of progress I'll definitely pick up her book "Wishcraft", which was apparently really good, but a bunch of people wrote to her and told her it was somewhat useless, because they didn't know what they wanted. Well, this book solved that problem, so it only seems natural that I head on to round 2 afterwards!

This FAR exceeded my expectations!

It's a good book that once you figure out what you need from it, you can find that chapter and sit with it. A lot of exercises to help you through it and I feel better about myself after reading it. I will say I skimmed it and read what felt relevant to me so that made me enjoy the book more.
