it was unexpectedly pleasant, i related to the main character in sooo many ways. and all the others characters ahhh!! i want that friendgroup. and i want a joel!!! i knew from the start it was gonna be him;))))
so i actually started this similar kissing competition (?) with my friend but he got a girlfriend so i don't have anyone to play with anymore but i guess i won. it's stupid but funny and while reading the book i felt so much closer to the characters bc of my personal experiences
also, if you're reading this, it's so much better if you're listening to such amazing and strong female singers in the meantime like halsey, taylor swift or my personal favourite, marina
all in all 3.5 ⭐

For 80% of the book, I thought this book was a 3 stars worth book. For the last 20% it was a 5 stars worth book. Making a balance, I think this book deserves 3.5 stars-4 stars. Can’t decide. 🤔
a really well done contemporary romance by Wendy Higgins. I connected with this book a lot since I was going through some similar issues and self exploring so i really connected with Zae’s character. Loved Wendy’s writing and just overall really enjoyed this book. Definitely worth a read.
After being cheated on by the only boy Zae Monroe has ever loved, and her parents getting a divorce over similar circumstances, she is over the male species. Zae is sick and tired of guys doing whatever they want to girls hearts. She is ready to turn the tables and start being the one with no feelings involved. So Zae and her friends start a competition to see who can kiss the most guys over their spring break, but when a secret poet from her English class starts writing about how he understands her and the feelings she is going through, Zae is desperate to find out who he is. Maybe she misjudged guys after all. Maybe all of them aren’t as bad as she thinks? Would she be ready to commit to another relationship if it was with the right guy?
It was amazing to see Zae take charge and do whatever she wanted. She was such a relatable character who made really good choices one minute and really bad ones the next. She fought with her parents and friends. She had complicated feelings about what she wanted to do after graduation. Her story was exactly what I needed. From her insecurities and flaws to her confident spirit and love for her little brother, I loved everything about Zae. Kiss Collector was such a cute story!!! I couldn’t put this book down and neither will you!

This is the story of Zae Monroe, a 17-year old, that catches her boyfriend cheating on her and her family's dynamics are changing which lead her to lose faith in love. Spring Break is about to begin and Zae is determined to enjoy it with her trio of girlfriends while collecting kisses from boys without any attachments.
At the start of the book there is a dedicated to Potomac High School (a local high school near me) and a couple mentions of Northern Virginia. I flipped to the author bio and discovered Wendy Higgins received her undergrad at the university I graduated from. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. What was even better was how much I ended up enjoying this book. Zae was one of the best teen characters I've ever read. Zae is smart, sad, a bit bitter and angry, strong and undecided on her future even though her friends seem to have their post high school plans in place. Her character is one of the most honest, fleshed out teens I've read. I was rooting for her from beginning to end. I hope Wendy Higgins has more contemporary books in her future.

Two breakups. 4 Friends. One list. Springbreak competition. Feminism. One Lost Girl. Fighting. Anger. More fighting. Realization. Happiness. Love. Following Dreams.

You're prob like why so quick? Let me tell you why, it's so cringy. As cringy as an Episode story. Like that was my first thought while reading this book. Like thinking, am I on my phone on the Episode app, right now? Cause it's that cringy.
Here's the thing, I love drama teen stories though, but when they are done right, like the DUFF. Except the Kiss Collector is trying to come off as 2010 in Dec. 2018. Meaning, that main girl is 'not like any of those other girls', isn't a cheerleading 'slut', and is, of course, a virgin because if she isn't, she is nothing but a slut, right? Bad messages, bad writing, bad characters--and here's the thing, I'm very picky with contemporary, I usually like more of a darker feeling to it or something that has humor laced in. But this was not good.
And this girl was annoying. She obviously thinks she's better than her boyfriend from the beginning, and gets really angry over little drug use. Like she says she wants to hit him, and I'm like sure, you're angry but it should be more out of worry than 'oh no, is he a drug addict?!? I'mma smack him if he is' But of course, he's sleeping around on the main girl, and she doesn't automatically consider this, she's like, 'is he doing drugs with another girl?!?'---this is really from an Episode commercial on all of our social media with the 'should i go in or not?' with the little mouse moving to each choice. So of course, when she finally figures out this aint a drug thing, she's like, 'did you kiss my boyfriend?' I'm pretty sure, they wouldn't be in a bedroom, where you're 'man' is yelling at the closed door to leave them alone if she had just kissed him. It's like use your head, like no teenager acts like this, no teenager is this naive. I'd understand if this was meant for tweens maybe, but there's literally mention of blowjobs, so I'm sure the age demographic was made for people like me. But it's so enjoyable and so cringy, that I'm not into it.
We meet Dean by the way, and there's nothing wrong with him, but the way she describes people is so dramatic-- 'like he's not a stereotypical jock, he's quiet, brooding, smart,' or whatever she says and is like 'I heard he 'did it' with his girlfriend a lot.' And I'm supposed to care? And then she's like we aren't your typical high schoolers and then a page later, well he is. Like get out of your pretentious ass.
Rant Over.
