Trying to get back in to the swing of things, poetry is a great place to start.

I found this collection, if a bit predictable, very beautiful. Gill’s poetry has mass appeal and I can see why she does well on social media, but there were bits and pieces within the poems that clutched at my heart and had me reminiscent of the emotions she was seeking to invoke.

Such a beautiful piece of literary art to come out of a time of such struggle and angst for everyone. This book is the beacon of hope in a sea of darkness that it promises to be... At least, it was/is for me.

Maybe it's just that I am too pessimistic to like it, but I found it too positive. The poet mentions in her poems a lot of interesting topics (death, trauma, politics...) but rarely expends on them, which is too bad. I highlighted several excerpts of this book, but no poem really struck me.

When I chose this title I was not aware that it specifically is poems written during the Covid lockdowns, and I simply was not ready for that.
Don't ask me for notes on the form of poetry, that's not something I know.
But these poems made me cry, and smile, and think back, and today that is enough.
