So much better than the first one. The first one was mostly character development.
I love the way the author focuses on each character.. I've been watching the series simultaneously and can clearly see the difference in the depth of the characters.. reading is always better than watching a series.
I'm on the third now and liking it so far.
As before, my favorite characters remain: Tyrion, Arya, the direwolves and pinning my hopes on Bran saving Winterfell..

I enjoyed the first book in this series, but man...I don't know what happened with this one. Take this with a grain of salt, as fantasy isn't really my genre to begin with, but even still, I found the first book quite interesting and engaging in a way that this one totally wasn't. It dragged on too long, was too convoluted, and I lost interest in some of the characters that I had enjoyed in Book 1.

In the book's defense - I read this while traveling, so read it over short spurts, and I may have gotten more into it if I'd had several hours at a time. Secondly, since I was traveling I read it on my kindle - not a good idea when there are a million characters to keep track of, since its not as easy to flip to the guide in the back or revisit earlier chapters.

All that said...if I didn't have a complex about never starting a book without finishing it, I may not have made it through this one.
