I loved “It Happened One Summer”, but “Hook, Line, and, Sinker” broke me. The way there was a soundtrack to the book made the reading experience that much better. Fox and Hannah are such relatable characters that it is easy to find yourself in one of their perspectives. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Really enjoyed another story about the Bellinger sisters. This one follows Hannah as she figures out her career, chases after a crush, and realizes the playboy fisherman Fox might just be the one for her instead of who she was chasing. Strong characters in this one and some dark themes are dealt with (death, grieving, people's expectations, career problems) but full of moments of joy and love as well.

In the tradition of me like sequels more than the original in romance series (The Bride Test, Act Your Age Eve Brown) Hook Line and Sinker just did it for me WAY more than It Happened One Summer, as controversial as that might be. Sure, it was kinda ridiculous that the entire stakes of the romance hinged on Fox being TOO attractive and TOO good at sex, but fuck it, I just really enjoy the friends to lovers trope and this was so well executed.

Let's chat about «Hook, Line, and Sinker» by Tessa Bailey, my second time diving into this story—this round through the audiobook. Initially, I found myself questioning why I enjoyed it so much the first time.

Fox's struggles felt a bit forced—can someone genuinely suffer so much from being labeled a ‹fuckboy› if he keeps feeding into that persona? But who am I to judge? We can never fully gasp someone's struggles—they are too personal for every one of us. It seems like his inner child is deeply hurt, making it all the more traumatic for him. But it doesn't stop there. The way the small town and even Fox's own mother treat him is disheartening. Her delayed acknowledgment of her actions only adds to the frustration.
Plus, some of the conversations between Hannah and Fox felt a bit immature, like something out of a high school drama. And word to the wise: avoid the German audiobook, as it's filled with cringeworthy language.
However, I did enjoy the movie-making backdrop and the music theme, which added a nice touch to the story. As a music lover, those elements really resonated with me.

Watching Hannah and Fox grow together was undeniably sweet. But upon reflection, I can't help but wonder why I rated it so highly the first time. Maybe upon closer inspection, there are flaws that were previously overlooked.
