I’ve read more memoirs this year than ever before, which is still not that much.
This wasn’t really like the others, the writing wasn’t as polished. Some phrases were quite repetitive.
That didn’t change much at all in terms of how the story impacted me. The simplistic style worked with her voice; a brutal situation stated in plain terms that really emphasized how young she felt.
I know this memoir won’t work for my mom and some of my friends who like more intricate storytelling, and don’t enjoy having thing spelled out for them, but it worked for me.
This was interesting, enraging, and harrowing. 13 years. I didn’t keep up with Britney Spears so most of this was new to me and everything I read was just a continual shock.
I saw her get torn apart on Twitter for her dance moves and her outfit choices, I’ve seen parodies of the knife part in particular, but honestly, reading this I went to her Instagram and it brought me so much joy after reading the final chapter. Even knowing that the relationship that brought her strength ended, seeing her make her posts and knowing what it means to her is heartwarming.

I have a hard time rating memoirs because it feels like rating a person’s life. There’s a lot I liked about the straightforwardness of her memoir, but also some of it felt more self-help than necessary and it lacked some nuance/pacing. Giving this a generous 3.5/5 rounded to 4. I think worth reading to get a better understanding of early 2000s pop culture that permeates today.

I'm not about to rate someone's life story like I would a work of fiction. I give this 5 stars based purely for Britney's bravery in telling us her story and taking control of her narrative.
This was such an insight and it hurts my heart to think of everything she's been through and how that even was allowed to happen on a legal basis. I hope Britney finds peace and happiness.
