This really suffered from being too short, and by summarizing/glossing over the events of the past books to establish the timeline of the MCs relationship. Against all odds I'm cautiously optimistic for the 4th book though?

This novella didn’t really add anything to the series in my opinion. I usually have issues with mid-series novellas for this exact reason, in that they usually lack substance. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the first book for a while, but I didn’t ever connect with these characters. The relationship and spice were mediocre at best. So, unless you are invested in these two particular characters (mentioned in the first book), I’d say you are good to skip this novella.
