well, 2.5 stars but I didn't like it enough to round up and for that I'm rather bummed.

I picked up this book in a used book store because the title caught my eye and then the description sounded fun. What would the world have been like had the famous Rock & Roll band "The Beatles" been made up of 3 zombies and 1 Ninja? Color me intrigued. I like a good zombie story. So I picked it up.

Unfortunately I found it a struggle to get through. What kept me going was actually it was pretty funny. There were seriously a LOT of one-liners and turns of phrases that had me chuckling if not down right laughing out loud. But the story... left me flat.

The story is a narrative of "research and interviews" that the author conducted into the history of the Beatles. John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCarthy are all zombies - a specific subset that retains memories and is basically human - but for the whole being undead and brain eating thing. John having been made one when he was an infant and then turned Paul and George and Ringo is a 7th level Ninja. It follows their rise, fall, rise and fall again and eventual disbanding of the group.

I suppose that if you actually liked the Beatles (I know heresy but I actually don't like much of their music from any point in their careers) you might like this book. But personally, except for the funny one-liners I found it lacking.

Finished "Paul is Undead" by Alan Goldsher. Laugh-out-loud funny in places. A fun, quick story! (And I don't read much zombie fiction.)

Two things I enjoy mashed into one novel - The Beatles & zombies. Truly a laugh out loud read.

This was not what I expected. It capitalizes on the popularity of both The Beatles & zombies but does so poorly.

It was pretty good - done in interview style. It was amusing - wonder what Paul or Ringo think about it.

The page count was off - 305 pages to the book, not 288.

If you like zombies or horror comedies and can get past the distastefulness of John Lennon reanimating his dead mother and a narrative style that is like a constant elbow in the ribs going "Eh? Eh? Get it?" perhaps this is the book for you. It is not the book for me. I abandoned it around page 30.

4/5. When I first started reading this... I couldn't tell if I really loved it or really hated it. And then, when I read 200 pages in one sitting, I realised I fookin' loved it! I'm not much of a zombie fan, but I'll be damned if I'm not a mega Beatles fan. In fact, to discern between reality and zombie-nonsense, you're gonna have to have a pretty decent knowledge of the band's history, from the Quarrymen up until the breakup.

Why did I love it?
Well, because, despite them being killer zombies, I was reading a fiction book from the point of view of the Fab Four etc. The band I love becoming characters in a story I knew completed me. And when I read that former-bassist Stu Sutcliffe was a vampire, I was sold. It was just brilliant.

Not everyone's cup of tea sure, but after 50 pages, you're gonna be hooked!
(P.S Ninja Ringo does the lovable Ringo justice and is an absolute legend!)

One of my kids at school recommended this one to me, so I picked it up. The title and premise are great - however, the writing style did not appeal to me and apparently I am not a big fan of zombies either...
