I had VERY high expectations after Gone Girl, and it was a good book, a fast read, but not NEARLY as good of a story or as much of a surprise.

This was honestly disturbing to read at some points but I still really liked it. Libby's inner dialogue is darkly funny and likeable in spite of her personality. I thought the mystery was very well-layered and well thought-out: it wasn't messy, there were no loose ends that didn't make sense. Really well done and kept my attention through the end.

I probably would have given this book 4 stars if it weren't for the animal abuse and neglect. Too detailed and I had to skip over those parts. I have a feeling Gillian Flynn isn't too fond of animals.

I listened to the audio of this and while a lot of it got my attention and had me guessing, there were other parts that disgusted me and I just didn’t like it. Probably not a fair rating but after listening, i definitely wouldn’t buy the actual book to read

Darker than dark, but a page turner. This book has much as the same appeal as the podcast Serial--it takes a crime and reexamines the witnesses and evidence. However, unlike Serial, it does reach a resolution, which some will find satisfying and some will not.

Thank you, Gillian, for redeeming yourself.

Homegirl can tell a good story, and unlike Gone Girl, Dark Places had a fulfilling ending. It was a definite page turner, and I liked it a lot, despite her propensity for writing female characters I want to throttle.

That is all.

This was great, I was riveted. Almost jumping out of my seat for the last third. Which was a bad thing on an airplane.

Upsetting, unsettling, and by the end, un-put-down-able! It did not go where I thought it would.

I loved Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" so I decided to get "Dark Places" and "Sharp Objects". Have to say, I didn't love DP. I love Flynn's writing style and I love her for being the anti-Nicholas Sparks, writing about awful people doing awful things. I love that. I really wanted to love DP but I didn't like the main character (and maybe that was her point...), and I was left anxious for the book to be over. Here's hoping SO is much better.

This book didn't really blow me away like Gone Girl did. I don't know if it's was just sort of being in a reading slump or what, but I just never really felt wowed by it. The twist was pretty good and I liked how unlikeable Libby was, but otherwise I was just underwhelmed by this one. Oh well.
