Altamente entretenido, me mantuvo despierto varias veces, luchando contra el sueño para seguir leyendo. La trama es atrapante, el estilo excelente, y los puntos de vista de los personajes hacen de la historia mucho más fascinante. Sin embargo, el final estuvo bastante flojo, tomó una salida fácil, y me hubiese gustado un mejor desarrollo con respecto al tema del traidor. Hubo una escena donde se hizo evidente y creí que era una trampa, pero no, es justo lo que parece, y no hay muchas explicaciones. Sin embargo, se disfruta mucho por su mezcla de romances, drama, y horror.
Highly entertaining, it kept me awake several times, fighting sleep to continue reading. The plot's engaging, the style excellent, and the points of view of the characters make the story much more fascinating. However, the ending was quite weak, it took an easy exit, and I would have liked a better development regarding the traitor theme. There was a scene where it became obvious and I thought it was a trap, but no, it's just what it sounds like, and there's not much explanation. However, it is greatly enjoyed for its mix of romance, drama, and horror.

I enjoy reading books that are dark, violent, and really push the limits. Books that deal with things you don't often find in more "mainstream" books. However, I find that a lot of this type of book have the same problem: lack of character development. There is drama and action and suspense and more action, but at the sacrifice of fully fleshed out characters. I liked the characters of Tracey, Gene, Kyle and Daniel, but I didn't feel like I really got to know them outside of the superficial.
This book is just too short. I don't mind being dropped right in the middle of the story in the beginning, but then I need more from them at the end. Those moments where everything slows down for a minute so that our characters can breathe. These are the moments when we can really dive into who these characters are, and get a deeper sense of understanding of them. I want to KNOW these characters, not just know ABOUT them. The book ends soon after the climax, so we don't really get to see a lot of the aftermath, and how these characters are holding up, how they are dealing with the trauma (esp. Kyle!). If I don't care about the characters, how can I care about what happens to them? The book was just not that impactful. It's like one of those slasher movies. It's fun to watch the group being terrorized by the killer, but when it's done you're left thinking: meh.
It's a good time in the moment but there's not much substance or depth.

As others have already said in their reviews, Harstock did an admirable job delving into the mind of a serial killer - there were several passages that were tough to get through just from the darkness of the killer in this novel. Crimson's mind is a very deep pit of ugliness. Sex and violence has always been a tough reconciliation for me. Those accustomed to slasher horror may be comfortable with this, but I suspect many others will struggle. Anyone expecting a M/M Romance from this novel may find disappointment.
