Wow! This was beautifully written/read. Viola narrating her own story makes it that much more appealing and personal.

✨ Audiobook ✨

This was my first ever audiobook! I’ve always been skeptical about listening to books, but I think after I fell in love with podcasts I had to give it a go 😊

I know and love Viola Davis from movies such as ‘The Help’ (which, by the way, needs addressing and she admits to that in the audiobook) and ‘How to Get Away With Murder’. I respect her range and work and thought this highlighted some really interesting aspects of her life, not just the work aspect. There definitely needs to be some trigger warnings (e.g. TW: abuse) which I’ll tag in the content warnings below. But the nuance with which she discussed these issues really struck me; she was sophisticated and stunning throughout 🥹 I felt very calmed by her voice.

In saying all this, however, I wonder if I needed to know more about her first to appreciate all of her stories. This got a 3.5 out of 5 stars for me this time ✨

A very emotional story of her escape from poverty and her journey to acting. It was difficult to read with tearing up at times.
