A collection of poems from collections of poems is always a tough sell: you get a handful of poems without the rest of their context, then jump in time 5 years for a few more, and so on. I would rather just find the original collections than have this scattered curation. So the very premise of the book is flawed and to be perfectly honest most of these poems didn’t resonate with me, personally (they felt inauthentic or too surface-level/basic) BUT that is highly subjective and I think as a poet Haskins definitely has a voice and technique that some will love. Not for me, unfortunately.
