Well, that thing is not really a non-fiction book but rather a try to create an alternate history and stir racial and fascist tendencies. I seriously don't get how that got published.

The author does a good job describing the origins of Germany and summarizing its history leading up to the early modern period in a concise and compelling fashion. However, the closer he gets to the present, the more inaccurate, cliche-ridden, and polemical the book becomes. Towards the end, the author’s biases are so blatant that the information presented in the earlier chapters is suspect as well, as what he has clearly been leading up to is yet another vilification of Prussia, which remains a favored punching bag of the Anglo-sphere, despite having been wiped off the map over 70 years ago. Very disappointing.

Enthralling and interesting to see another country's history.

A fascinating distillation of 2,000 years of history, illuminating the broad strokes of Germany for this unenlightened reader. True, the author makes limited use of historical references and has a simplistic thesis, but understood as a single-perspective narrative written for digestibility: pretty great.

Quite interesting and intense. It took me many tries to get through it and I ought to the author to start again once more to make sure I gather more information from its pages.
The writing is clear and to the point. Illustrations are helpful and provide useful context.
