I haven’t been as excited about a fantasy novel like this since I first read Asimov’s Caves of Steel. This had that same kind of magic, a film noir steeped in a thoroughly interesting and compelling fantasy world. Should definitely read the first Mistborn series first - but, then I highly recommend diving right into this book!

Main character is very flat in comparison to the rest of the characters. The story is good but it feels like an opener for the next books and it cannot stand alone.

3.5 ⭐️Like Sherlock met a western; surprising but fun! This was addicting to read but lacked a lot of the Sanderson world building. I wish to know more about the characters and the world. I will obviously be reading the next ones, since this feels like such a fun like “episode” of a detective show!

Nice little story. The action scenes were great and some of the best I've read from sanderson so far. The charecters all really worked for me. I am interested in where steris charecter goes and her relationship with wax.
