If I had not needed to sleep I would have devoured this in one sitting (which rarely happens). I was looking for a lighthearted story and this contemporary young adult story was just what I needed. Izzy’s struggle throughout this book to find her identity, her voice and true relationships had me tearing up. This book showed the realities of wanting to be seen in a word that can be self absorbed and the damage an emotionally manipulative relationship can cause and how surrounding yourself with people who promote self acceptance can help grow confidence and self love. I thought Izzy’s relationship with her mother was interesting and how that ultimately helped her growth from being unintentionally self-centred to self aware. This book explored how everyone can be put into a ‘box’ and the diverse representation included racial and gender bias in society. I loved will’s comedy song at the beginning and how Izzy found comedy to be a form of therapeutic for her healing. However, Izzy’s parents were for most of the book infuriating, especially with one being a lawyer but clearly can’t read a room! Also, some on the American humour went over my head, but for the most part I found the comedy aspect worked well.

I didn't know what I expected with this story, but I absolutely didn't expect what I found... in the best way. I've never read a comedic story before. Now that I've finished this one, I'm asking myself why I haven't. I had a wonderful time reading this story and I'm so glad I read it.
