I liked this book. It's about Izzy who is 16 years old that is having a hard time at home not getting the attention she wants but one day walks into a bar up to a mic. Izzy meets new friends that are college students and learns about the life of comedy. I enjoyed the writing style of this book but I had a hard time with the joke which was the main theme of the book. I did enjoy how the author wrote the settings, plot, and character which I enjoyed but just didn't laugh at the jokes that were being made in the story.
I enjoyed the characters in this book especially Izzy. I can compare myself so much to Izzy because Izzy is a quiet girl who just wants to get out of her shell to show who she really is. I enjoyed the side characters like Mo who helped Izzy with being on stage. There is great character development in this book and conflicts that help bring the characters together. There isn't much romance which I think was perfect for this book.
This was a great read but for me, the jokes fell for the book. Everything else like the characters, plot, etc were great but not the comedy. It's probably because I'm lama haha. I think there will be readers who will enjoy and understand the comedy in this book unlike me. This is perfect for readers who like contemporary books!

*HUGE thank you to Katie Henry for sending me an eARC!* I would argue that the synopsis of this book is a bit misleading. It is more about how the MC is making a transformation during/after an emotionally abusive relationship. The stand-up comedy does serve as a catalyst for the MC to find her voice, but it isn’t the main focus of this story.
That being said, Katie Henry is my favorite YA contemporary author for several reasons:
1. She’s amazing at nuance
2. She always includes a great and diverse group of friends
3. She’s smart and that comes through in her writing
4. She’s freakin’ hilarious
And This Will Be Funny Someday is no exception. I flew through this and ate it up like candy. I personally connected with her first two books a little more (because I very directly relate to their MCs), but this book was still a wonderful read with an excellent character growth story.

I cringed, I laughed, I cried. Aside from the "all too close to my own dating history" relationship, I really enjoyed this book. As advertised, it definitely will appeal to fans of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (which I now want to rewatch). Discusses difficult issues with self-esteem, friendship, bullying, relationships, and more while still having a few great jokes and plenty of empowering scenes.
The one issue that I had was with Isabel's hearing difficulties, which seemed to come and go conveniently. Like, she has difficulty with her "friends" in the cafeteria, but no problem hearing at night clubs and bars?

Content warnings: toxic relationship, brief description of sexual abuse, toxic family relationships
