Honestly, I read it long ago and only vaguely remember it had something to do with Cuba. I'm assuming I probably didn't care for it.

Ugh. Excessive use of the N-word and other racial slurs. Super violent.  I'm struggling to find something I liked about this book. I'm sure in 1930 this book was a revelation - fast, dialog heavy writing style, politics of the time, struggles of the poor.   But, ugh. It was ugh from start to finish. Uncomfortable to read for first 2/3rds, then long winded stream of consciousness at the end.  I didn't like a single character.

Hemingway may not be for me.....he's not hard to read, just terribly unpleasant. I like the way he writes dialogue- not a lot of unnecessary wording. His language is enough to make me cringe- the constant use of the 'n' word- I'm hoping he was going for character authenticity. A depressing book, to be honest...glad it's done.
