It was Ok, the clues were too ovbious as for Riven's "betrayal", but OK.

I was really excited about this book when it started. It's a bit different from the genres I usually read, mixing contemporary and fantasy.
The bargain with a powerful being, the helpless girl who needs help, the dedicated king ready to fall to his knees for the girl!
Had everything to be a hit in my books, but it wasn't.

Can we acknowledge that Lia was often an asshole to Riven? Her attitude bothered me for more than half of the book. She would be really just mean to him and a second later, the sexual tension would be overwhelming and they would be all over each other.
It removed some of the magic for me, it dampened their bond. The spice had potential, but I had no emotional investment because the rest of their relationship seemed to be so toxic.

I could get over the mutual betrayal and sequential moment of forgiveness if it didn't feel like she'd still hold all these things over his head.

Dunno, I appreciate the book and the author, but maybe it wasn't meant for me.

The writing just wasn’t my cup of tea. The FMC was written in a way that made her seem so much younger than what she actually was and I felt like I was reading a YA novel

It was like a hallmark film but a fairytale & spice.

Kinda corny- but think it would scratch the itch if you’re looking for a quick read.

It held my attention but I think I might be too old for it? It had a YA teenager feel- but adult spice.

It was fine. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.

This book is definitely worth the read. I wish there would have been more wooing & romance to it between the main characters, but it kept me guessing all the way through it.
