This book feels like watching a car crash in slow motion. Even though June was insufferable most of the time, she was a compelling character that I still found myself having sympathy for despite her constant mistakes.

I didn't like the main character & the book was slow, shallow and predictable. I don't understand why it's so popular.

Great satire of the publishing industry and social media.
I enjoyed the book itself but as always, the Goodreads or Storygraph reviews  are extremely interesting to read.

I've never hated a protagonist so much, and I think that's the point?

I'm left with more questions than answers after finishing this story. Am I supposed to be happy for June? Sad for her? Kuang inflicted a level of empathy for her, that's certain, but at the end of the day June is a culture vulture and a thief. Watching her spiral and all the microaggressions her and everyone around her kept throwing out...I don't feel badly for her.

There were many points I felt icky being in her POV, but it was written SO phenomenally well that I couldn't put it down once I really started it. This was my first time reading R.F. Kuang, and lemme just tell you...the hype is warranted!
