3.5 stars rounding up to 4 for goodreads

I enjoyed this up until the climax. It had so much potential to have a brilliant twist and I just felt like it didn't live up to the build up of the story. It was good but I really wish it gave me that "omg" factor.

I'm always up for a twisty psychological thriller that keeps me guessing and buzzing through pages. Unfortunately, THE SECOND HUSBAND really doesn't fit that description. At least not for me. The characters are—to a one—bland and one-dimensional and yet they still manage to be totally unlikable! I couldn't stand weak, whiny Emma, who never actually DOES anything. She spends the novel reacting instead of acting, which makes her boring to boot. The plot of THE SECOND HUSBAND is just as bad. Little of it makes any logical sense. It also goes on and on, making the book feel endless. White's prose doesn't help matters with its dull, tell-more-than-show style. All of this complaining begs the question, "WHY did I keep reading THE SECOND HUSBAND?" Honestly, I'm not sure. I was invested enough to finish the novel, apparently, but I spent most of the read rolling my eyes over one thing or another. Needless to say, I won't be picking up another White "thriller."

I had higher expectations for this book. It was an easy and good read, but I felt the ending was pretty predictable and the wife Emma was just oblivious to so many red flags *eye roll*...

Good concept, but the “nail-biting conclusion” honestly felt half-hearted and kind of made any suspense fizzle out.

This was an intriguing read. I came up with many theories as the story developed which kept me doubting and second guessing throughout the entirety of the book.

I wouldn’t necessarily call it twisty but I did appreciate how every chapter left me with more questions than answers. Like I said, it’s an intriguing read.

Oooh this was a twisty one! My first Kate White novel - but not my last! 4/5⭐️
.
Emma Hawke's world is turned upside down when her husband is found murdered in New York. Fast forward two years later and Emma is re-married and thriving. When a detective shows up with new information regarding Emma's first husband's murder, Emma begins to question everything. She was cleared in the initial investigation, but now suspicion is back on her, and Emma is uncertain her new husband is being completely honest with her.
There were a lot of twists and turns in this book and it kept me guessing until the end. A fun one!
