“Shout” by Laurie Halse Anderson

Laurie Halse Handerson is a survivor of sexual assault, and over the years turned consistently to writing. This memoir in poetry examines Anderson’s relationship both with her traumatic past and with the way her writing has resonated with other survivors. Anderson carries a well-developed narrative through the collection of poetry, completely justifying the memoir and poetry combination. The poetic language choices are usually clear and the memoir carries some new elements to survivor narratives, though I did find at times the included vignettes to be a bit far reaching from the central thread. All in all a very good poetry collection.
