Another great installment to a wonderful series - however, this is my least favorite in the series so far, but still a good book.

The story follows on directly from the first with the repercussions of what happened at the end of book 3. The murder revolves around a man who accidentally died when I knife fell on him at his home, but all is not what it seems. (Trigger warnings at the bottom).

What I loved about this book is you see more of Seong Jae backstory and we more about him as a person and there are subtle hints of a past that Seong Jae is trying to run from. We also see the insecurities that Seong Jae has in that, in this book, he acknowledges that he has feelings for Malcome but he doesn't feel good enough for him - almost that he is too troubled. I also loved the little moments of Seong Jae and Malcome (if minimal due to Seong Jae going solo with Malcome on bed rest) where Seong Jae gave in and allowed himself to just feel in the moment. In this story, you also see the development of Seong Jae with other characters, notably, the medical examiner Stenson and we get to see the friendship development which is so heartfelt as Seong Jae does not know how to accept friendship. She also called Seong Jae and Malcome sexual tension out and told him to embrace his feelings.

There are some things however that I did not like. The main thing I didn't like was the introduction of Malcome's ex-wife and the scene at the end where he has sex with her despite being upset about his growing feelings for Seong Jae. I felt like she was there to be a block in Malcome and Seong Jae's relationship, even going as far as walking in on a moment between them - however, she was always civil to Seong Jae when they interacted. I also thought it was strange that Malcome would allow Gabi to move in with him when she is looking for a place when in the previous book he emphasise that he needed to move on from the past. I just hope that she is not going to disrupt the partnership that has been built.

Trigger Warnings:
- Abuse
-misogyny
-Homophobic Slurs
-Sexual abuse
-graphic descriptions of murder

Another wild ride

I can barely stand to read down the page because it takes too long and I want to know what's on the next one! So compelling and with just the right balance of things revealed vs mysteries still to explore. I am immediately continuing to the next book.

First let me say I’m so happy Tim Mitchel is dead he was so awful.

Even though Malcom wasn’t working in this book I still really enjoyed reading about him with his ex wife and his parents. I also liked learning more about Seong Jae’s past and his intractions with the other characters, specialy Cara lol she’s awesome.

Finally -FINALLY- something is happening, but it's still not enough.

Finalmente qualcosa si sta muovendo, ma non è ancora sufficiente per ritenermi soddisfatta.

Book 4 was better than Book 3. Not best, but better. There were no hurting-each-other-with-nasty-remarks kind of fights, but definitely had a magnetic turnout with hurt feelings every now and then. When Malcolm pushes, Seong Jae retreats. When Seong Jae is about to push, Gabi comes into the picture.

Really, why did things have to get that ugly and complicated in the end? That dread, that stomach-dropping feeling is not worth the effort spent trying to stay away. (Yes, I am talking to you and you, Malcolm and SJ)

~~~~~
The cases were not fresh, unlike the ones in the first and second. And this time, they didn’t really work on it together, so I am gonna hold on to that last star. There was nothing mysterious to look forward to about the case. We knew who it was all along.
Anyway, having thoughts about the title, “Changing Faces”.
I’m probably dumb seeing how I don’t get how the title and this book is connected. Does it have to do with the girl and mom or Seong Jae?
