this book didn't turn out how i was expecting. i wish there was more of a buildup to the villain reveal. but i got through.
what truly carried this book for me was the sisterhood. i will always love strong friendships in media, especially strong female friendships. the girls' bond was the best part.
i loved scarlett and jackson, but i'm not a fan of vivi and mason. mason bothers me. he was always attracted to vivi even when he was still with scarlett, which was really icky.
overall, i'd say this is book is for people trying to break into YA fantasy who aren't used to it yet. it's not so much for us readers who already read a lot of fantasy.

DNF at 6% (page 22). This one reminded me too much of A Great and Terrible Beauty, which I also DNF'd. I was intrigued and honestly influenced to buy it when really I should have known better. I'm not into "mean girl" stories. I don't like spending my time reading about women who treat each other terribly. I thought the witchy vibes would be enough, but changed my mind once I started. I have heard this has some fun plot twists so I think if you like the drama, the witchy vibes, a murder mystery, and a twisty plot, you'll probably at least enjoy this one.

The first half of this drags, and I guessed the murderer and motivations within the first 30 pages. The last half was pretty good though, with two twists I almost didn't see coming.

This enchanting story switches between the perspective of two university students, Vivi and Scarlett, in a small Georgia town. Both characters are at a different point in their education (freshman vs junior), although fate ensures they will cross each other’s paths. As Vivi learns about the reality of witchcraft’s secret existence through the exclusive (and actually magical) sorority, The Ravens, Scarlett is finding herself one step closer to her darkest secrets being exposed. The sisters are forced to rely on one another, and the story is ultimately one of strength and love. Morgan and Paige remind readers of the importance of sisterhood, as well as some of the risks of isolation and betrayal. The Ravens are smart, beautiful, and strangely charming. The novel will suck you in and allow you to almost forget that magic doesn’t exist (or does it?)

This is a great read! I enjoyed the twist on sorority life by having them be a coven of witches. I also enjoyed it wasn't stereotypical sorority girls the entire time, but the girls are genuine and care for one another. This story takes you on twists and turns while going back and forth between a young naive witch and a more experienced witch who while they're dealing with this greater struggle as a group, both witches have eternal conflicts.

At Westerly College, a coven of witches hides in plain sight as the sorority sisters of Kappa Rho Nu, known around campus as the Ravens. Rivalry sparks within the sisterhood between our two main characters, powerful new pledge Vivi and Scarlett, the soon-to-be president who is tasked with showing her the ropes despite thinking she doesn't have what it takes. However, old secrets haunt the Kappa house and the Ravens must come together to protect their sisterhood.
This book is the definition of a page-turner: action-packed from start to finish and brimming with magic and mystery. Every plot twist and revelation brought with it just as many new questions as it answered, propelling the story forwards through this blend of fantasy and thriller.
This cast of characters is so diverse and distinctive. The contrast between our two protagonists created such an interesting dynamic in their relationship as 'sisters', especially when we got to see their ongoing conflicts from both sides of the argument. The other sisters, though much less present in the overall story, popped in at perfectly placed points throughout to provide insight and encouragement which contributed so much to Vivi's growth as she struggles to understand her new-found power. I also really loved the whole theme of sisterhood that ran throughout the book and the way that all the girls banded together to face whatever threats came their way. It was really heart-warming to see them bond and learn from one another and, whether it was tricky spell-work or campus party etiquette, they always supported one another through every situation.
My one gripe with this book was the inclusion of the love interests of both Vivi and Scarlett. Both plot lines felt a little weak compared to the drama of everything else going on and, although it was a nice reprieve in amongst all of that, I almost feel it would've been better had they been left out and keeping the story focused on the sisterhood. I did really like both of the love interests individually but their respective romances didn't feel as though they had enough time to grow naturally.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would absolutely recommend it to anyone after a witchy thriller read with plenty of girl power.
