Un día te despiertas con ganas de comerte el mundo y ser independiente, no soportas la indiferencia de tu padre y cuestionas el abandono de tu madre. Kafka desea reencontrarse a sí mismo y durante su búsqueda se cruza con un grupo de personas ,de personalidades particulares, que le ayudan a darle respuesta a varios de sus interrogantes.

Una biblioteca especial, una cabaña dentro de un bosque lejos de la civilización y la fatídica muerte de su padre, le ayudan a tomar decisiones sobre su futuro.

"Kafka en la orilla" lleva de viaje al lector entre hermosos paisajes místicos y únicos, un realismo mágico combinado con el diario vivir y hace cuestionarse sobre el verdadero sentido de la vida , la simplicidad y cómo alcanzar la felicidad propia dentro de una sociedad decadente.

Do not be tempted to read Kafka on the Shore as if there are elements of fantasy in it because that misses the point and trivializes the perspective that it offers. The shore of Kafka's world is ours as well with one major advantage--we have Haruki Murakami there to help us understand the life we all share in one way or another. Murakami does this by adjusting reality here and there and by leaving some elements of the story unresolved. He adjusts reality to alter our perspective on life's events in the real world. He leaves some elements of the story unresolved because that is the way the real world is: much is unknown about how things--even important things--happen in the real world. If you get beyond these temptations to reject what seems implausible or to look for the closure of every angle, the beauty of the book will at least touch your heart if not also make you feel as if you were floating for awhile.
