Oh my goodness the characters in this are just amazing and i really loved Sal a whole lot. They were definitely my favourite and it is not often i would say that about Main characters.

not as good as the first, but still fun and i found that the plot hooks you in. i'm not a huge fan of elise, not really sure why, but i really like sal and think they're especially interesting for being the protagonist. there is no "you can project your entire being onto this character" because they actually have a fleshed out backstory and personality, which also then makes them easy to relate to, which is exactly the balance i'm looking for. idk how to feel about the queen, i feel like her character is simplistic. everyone's like "maybe she has done some pretty bad things" and then they say "well! moving on" and that's it. that kinda messes with the book overall when one of the major themes is oppression and abuse of power.

Really interesting story about genderqueerness and nationality and loyalty and what those mean.

Neatly tied up the loose ends remaining from the first book. Read a great deal like fanfiction, with all the pros and cons that come along with the style.

I received an e-ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. Review can be found on *Milky Way of Books*

The action-packed ending to this duology had everything I love in a good fantasy; amazing characters, mysteries unveiled the wonderful Sal to root for and a finale which I didn't expect, yet I loved all the same.

With Sal trying to find the rest of the conspirators who want to destroy the Queen and hell-bent over revenge, they will have to deal with more than just their torturous past. Apart from Sal, Maud and Emerald were also my favorite characters and I can't wait for you to read this sequel too! I won't spoil much but you really have to read this one! And if you haven't even read the first book, do so!
