Well I truly went on an adventure with this book. I postponed reading it because of certain “reviews” I have heard/read about it, I didn’t want a world that I love so much tampered because of one children’s book, and now I regret being so easily convinced. The book was an easy read, the language didn’t make the reading tedious, but that doesn’t mean that the plot was simple. In my humble opinion J. R. R. Tolkien is the best writer when it comes to world building, even in a book like The Hobbit you can catch a glimpse of all the work that there is behind the story, a whole new world with its own rules, history, culture, races and even languages. The story is filled with action, there is not a boring moment in it, and yet it doesn’t feel like there are filler chapters, everything makes sense and feels right. What can be said of the characters? I have always admired how Tolkien decided to make the smallest and kindest creatures the main heroes of his stories, you really get to like and cheer for Bilbo and he deserves that treatment. I wish we could have gotten to know more about the dwarfs, but well they were too many and the pages were imitated (after all this is supposed to be a book for kids). I have to highlight also the great use of language that Tolkien makes, and also praise the songs and poems he created just for this story. Also there is so much to get out of this story, which seemingly is just an enjoyable read, but that in my opinion hides great messages, like for example how avarice corrupts the heart and the consequences of that. Without a doubt this is a book that I would recommend and that I will read again in the future.
