In vergelijking met The Lord Of The Rings leest The Hobbit als een trein. Het duurt maar een paar pagina's voor The Shire verlaten wordt, in tegenstelling tot een half boek, en om het hoofdstuk bevinden we ons weer in een ander subplot. Onder het heerlijke avonturenverhaal liggen mooie moralen over vriendschap, wantrouwen, achterdocht en corruptie, en Bilbo Baggins is noch held noch antiheld, maar een complete andere categorie, en met verve geschreven. Enorm genoten, en ik was vergeten dat iedereen in Middle Earth thee drinkt, pijp rookt en heerlijke liederen heeft voor elke saaie dagdagelijkse handeling. Zeker een aanrader als je iets van Tolkien wilt lezen maar afgeschrikt bent door LOTR.

This was incredible. Andy Serkis' performance was masterful and the story itself is beautiful. That was the first time I had ever read this book and this was the perfect way to experience it.
