The inner turmoil that Auren has the entirety of this book is so well done. It doesn't come off as annoying or tedious like it can in some other novels. The pacing was still perfect and I could really feel more in tune with Auren in this book than in the first. We learned a lot more about her backstory, though I feel as if there are a few missing pieces still before we come to an epic conclusion.

I enjoyed the multiple perspectives in this book, especially since we get to see more of Queen Malina's story. I can't wait for the next one in the series. (06/2024)

Commander Rip is exactly who I thought he would be. I can't wait to see how he and Auren banter together in the future, and to see what's in store for both of them.

King Midas is starting to show his true colors towards the end of the book. I feel like he is nothing but a walking barrel of red flags since the beginning and I am curious to see if there is a redemption arc in store for him.

I have a ton of thoughts on Queen Malina. There have been a ton of references to her becoming the "Snow Queen", so if her story is another retelling of that fairytale, I am all ears. I still haven't decided if I like her yet. I suspect she may end up killing Midas and becoming the true enemy of Auren in the next few books.

4 out of 5 stars.
