I really liked reading this - I read it in 3 days which is a huge deal for me. Some may not like the writing style but I enjoyed it in all its quirkiness. I love coming of age stories, they’re possibly my favourite. And this one was going really well until.. suddenly it wasn’t. There’s a strange gap towards the end that left me with a lot of unanswered questions. I want more!

Solid read though. Thoroughly enjoyed

I enjoyed this book once I finished it and reflected on the whole story. I found the writing style felt immature and made it hard to get into the story
slow-paced

Whilst I raced through this book, desperate to piece it all together, now that I’ve finished it I’m still a bit confused.

This book made me sad in multiple ways. The story is heartbreaking but also the ending/resolution is so unsatisfactory, ahhh! Also the blurb is very misleading, suggesting it’s about a friendship between an older and younger woman, but the two stories only join together in the last few-dozen pages. I’d have preferred a book that was just about Susie, finding resolution on her own with the support of her friends or something that made her see the world differently. Unlike others I found her very believable for a very clever but traumatised teenager, possibly with ADHD or other neurodiverse traits (?), but was frustrated by the lack of resolution. And we needed date-stamps: the first clear signal we get of the year is halfway through, and like several aspects of this book, the mystery is intriguing but not quite enough.

Just not for me right now

Sometimes a book resonates so strongly with you, you find yourself still thinking about the main character days later.
It doesn’t happen often.
But when it does, it makes you rethink how good writing can be.
I loved this book. I loved not just the characters, but the settings, (very Australian), the themes, the ideas....
Looking forward to whatever the author writes next.
