I really liked the concept, and I think the execution was done pretty well.

My heart broke so many times for Finn. I just wanted to wrap him up in a hug every single time. The poor guy seriously needs a break. I’ll admit, I’m overly emotional and super empathetic, so I teared up quite a few times haha

A lifetime of dreaming and pretending the characters in books were both men, so I could imagine a real romance, didn’t prepare me for my first kiss.

Did Finn feel a little childish at times? Definitely. He came across as overly innocent, not great at communicating, and kinda whiny. But honestly, after everything he’d been through, I still felt for him and I ended up really liking him. I just wish his kindness had been shown in a way that didn’t rely so heavily on crying. Gentle doesn’t have to mean fragile.

I absolutely loved Rath’s patience, protectiveness, and respect. His love language—especially all the words of affirmation—was so sweet, and they really balanced each other out well. Yeah, they were a little cheesy at times, but honestly super cute.

However. My biggest complaint is the POV shifts. I love dual POVs, but there was no indication when the switch happened, which got confusing. It would shift mid-chapter without warning, and I had to read a bit to figure out whose head I was in.

Also, I will say the last 10% of the book didn’t quite work for me. I can’t pinpoint exactly why, but I found myself wanting to skip through it. That said, the very end was adorable and gave me all the warm fuzzies.

I think I’ll definitely check out the rest of the series.
