I'm really surprised I haven't been spoiled for this book since it's such a beast within the fantasy genre. I read Mistborn as a buddy read with my husband, who's already read it, and while it isn't quite the style of fantasy I'd usually pick up I enjoyed it well enough. The plot was cohesive, the pacing was good, the characters were (mostly) diverse and interesting. The only thing this book lacked was heart. I'm not sure how to put it other than that. It was like the spark, the *oomph* I usually look for in fantasy was missing. I think it was something regarding the character connections -- I wanted just a bit more introspection, a little longer in each person's emotions, more intimate conversations. Instead, the shifting narration made it hard to get into any one person's head outside their immediate thoughts. They didn't leap off the page, and I really wish they had.
And throughout the whole thing I just kept thinking, "why did it have to be so *long*?"
But I really liked the magic system. I liked how defined it was, but we still learned it slowly along with Vin. I liked that it had assumed edges of ability that helped make it feel concrete and limited, while still leaving room for surprises and surpassing capabilities. I liked the element of the journal giving the characters a glimpse of the past.

Book 26 of 2021! The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Book 26!!! This means I have completed my goal of reading 26 books before I turn 26 in July! Whoop Whoop! Go me! Of course, I'll be creating a new goal now.
Anyway back to the actual book, The Final Empire! I enjoyed it but I don't think this lives up to the hype. It's a great book, I'm not saying it's not. I just felt like there was a lot of talking about doing something and not actually doing it.
I didn't instantly like the characters either, which I think is a biggie. I got more attached to them towards the very end of the book. The twists and turns were great. The inquisitors seemed unnaturally spiteful and out to cause pain, which I didn't understand.
I'd like to know more about Vin's powers, I also enjoyed her character development. The main female characters in Sanderson's books aren't written for you to love them instantly. Vin goes from street urchin to Assasin! There's never really a love triangle either, so it's not predictable and that makes it enjoyable.
Sazed, my favourite character in this book <3
Excited to read book no.2!

I’m currently cursing my past self for sitting on this for so long. So bloody good, what a way to start the year. Glad I have The Well of Ascension ready to read!
Sen ne yaptın be adam? Utanır insan böyle güzel yazılır mı?
i enjoyed her SO SO MUCH. my first brandon sanderson book and i already feel like falling in love with his writing and storytelling. i could tell in some parts that this was indeed a book that was released in 2006 lmao, the middle got a bit repetitive but by the end i literally couldn’t guess anything and was at the edge of my seat. i will never forgive anyone if kelsier is actually dead though, it took a piece of my heart i cannot do without him plsplplspls.
i love the character work, i am absolutely in love with the world and the magic system. i dont like the romance but whats new, lets see when will i gather the strength to start the second book. love u brandonnnn even though i hate u for offing my fav for life :((((
