I felt locked in immediately. The plot at the beginning took unexpected turns that I loved, but parts of the middle dragged for me with the conflict between Callum and Kate. But the ending made up for it. Such a fun and emotional read!
Grovelling hero?
I have been wanting to read this book for some time. Although, I didn't like it that much. There was a lot of miscommunication between them and that led to the 3rd act. The spicy level was okay and their life is told in a span of 5 years.

“Regret is good, Callum. But it will not fix what has been broken. Regret is not enough to build a marriage on.” ~ Kate
Be prepared to have your heart ripped out! Heart in the Highlands is filled with so much heartache, raw emotion, deep seated pain, yet, also the promise of love and redemption.
Callum and Kate are cautiously optimistic when they meet unexpectedly the day before their arranged marriage. There is a glimmer of hope for a life of love and happiness. But Callum’s intense hatred for his father overtakes him. The morning after he speaks his vows to love and protect he leaves…Scotland, his family, and Kate.
Abandoned and rejected, grief and anger her constant companion, Kate is shocked when Callum returns to her four and half years later. The damage to her heart is irreparable, insurmountable…but Callum is determined to earn her trust and hopefully one day her love. While Callum’s choice to leave her behind destroyed what could have been, Kate has her own actions to be forgiven for…she has kept secrets from Callum. Secrets that could widen that gulf between them, that could create a chasm in his heart as deep as the one he left in hers.
Beautiful story of the consequences of anger and bitterness, of finding the strength to love and forgive, and accepting a person for their faults and failures.

I always love arranged marriage tropes but this book was so much more than that. So many emotions, it had betrayal, strained family relationships, self disappointment, and the list goes on. But the beauty of this love story is how they overcome their challenges or learn to accept them and love each other including their imperfections because that’s the real love that will stand the test of time.

This was such a beautiful story about a second-chance regency romance set in Scotland. Katie and Callum had to work through some real, raw emotions and struggles. I just loved their journey and how they learned to love each other along the way in all each other’s imperfections, because love isn’t perfect, it’s messy. Learning to trust someone again is hard, and it’s tempting to put up walls and barriers to keep yourself from getting hurt again. It’s especially hard when that person left you to deal with all this grief and loss on your own. It was just so beautifully written and I always love themes about grace and forgiveness. It was also nice having both points of view. It brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart.. I highly recommend. It’s definitely a hidden gem.

Callum finds himself in a situation he never imagined, debating an arranged marriage. But wishing to ensure the well-being of his uncle's family he makes a deal with his father and agrees to proceed in matrimony to a stranger. And when he meet Lady Katherine she further cements that this union may work. But when he discovers the deception of his father, he makes some choices that have consequences beyond his imagination.
Four years later Callum is finally ready to deal with the results of his choices and repair his marriage. But Kate isn't the naive new bride she once was. The years have callused her heart and she isn't interested in letting Callum in. But Callum is determined to gain her trust. However, he doesn't realize all the secrets he has to uncover and what is really at stake.
_____
From the first chapter you are dropped into the moors of Scotland and immersed in this epic love story. This book is about the choices we make and dealing with the consequences of those choices.
I loved the themes of hope and change and forgiveness interwoven into this beautiful narrative. Callum and Kate have such a chemistry that runs deep and they have to deal with all the things it stirs up within them.
There is a faith element that is written so true to life and doesn't feel heavy handed.
This book is a gem and so much is packed into 300 pages, not a second is wasted of your reading time, it is a delight from beginning to end.
_____
This is a closed door, intimacy implied between a married couple off the page, regency romance with Christian faith elements.
Content note: This book deals with fertility struggles, & baby loss. Please guard your heart if that is not something that will be good for you to read at this time.

Arranged marriage meets second chance romance in this sweet regency novel.
Going into this book with the book description in mind, I was worried about being disappointed with how the romance played out (despite glowing reviews). I feared the story's hero, Callum, would be too unforgivable for Kate, the story's heroine, to believably forgive. Thankfully, the story plays out beautifully and all my worries faded away!
The set up is lovely, there is a lot of realistic push and pull throughout, and it ends beautifully (though I was sad it ended so soon!). I enjoyed each of the side characters and wouldn't have been upset to spend more time with any of them! Kate and Callum, especially, were both endearing characters I couldn't help but root for.
A beautiful, clean romance with a Scottish setting!
