Baby's (23yo's) first audiobook ✌🏻

This is my second book from Caitlin (I still need to read her memior but rest assured, it's on the shortlist). I read From Here To Eternity a couple years ago now but I still love it. It's my number one non-fiction rec that I'll badger anybody about that's unlucky enough to ask about it. Needless to say, I knew I was going to like this one.

I've watched Caitlin's YouTube videos for years. I nearly applied to mortuary school becuase of them. Because of that, I opted to listen to the audio version of Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs, despite never listening to audiobooks (hence this being my first). Now I haven't been completely converted...but I am running to listen to her other two books on audio now.

My problem with audiobooks is that I can never get into them because the voices just aren't right somehow, and even if I can get into them, I get distracted too easily and stop listening on accident. The author being the narrator circumvents a lot of that. Her tone and cadence fits the writing perfectly (imagine that) and she held my attention easily as I listened to it all in one go.

My only complaint really, is that it's too short. I was left almost unsatisfied by the end because I just wanted more. Alas, back to the YouTube channel I go.

Doughty’s signature wit and humor is condensed for younger(?) readers. Her honesty and frankness is always refreshing but here it definitely seems  less  potent and touching, but definitely because the target reading group is less intense than her previous books intended readership. Satiates curiosity and has great illustrations!

Okay yeah this confirms that I just love this author. I love her sense of humor, it's very dark but in such a fun way, kinda like Jenny Lawson whom I adore. I learned so much and can't stop spouting random facts about death and dead bodies to people who absolutely did not ask me to do so but 🤷‍♀️ we should all get more comfortable talking about death, right? Also thank you to the kids who asked these great questions lol they're so cool before society ruins them 🫠

Fantastic and so approachable in a discussion about death, would be happy for my daughter to read it as she grows up

This book answers questions that all of us have probably had about death at some point in our lives. Caitlin Doughty is a mortician and content creator who dedicates her platform to making the world feel more comfortable with death and all that comes with it. I have always struggled with a lot of these concepts so reading this was outside of my comfort zone, but I found it extremely informative, accessible and even funny. The only reason why i didn't give it quite 5 stars is just because I would've liked some chapters to have more information.

Many amazing and interesting questions about death answered, thanks to kids who asked about them. I never wondered what happens if you die in space, but now I know. The humour and illustrations made this a light read, couldn't recommend enough.
