VIBES⇩
  • mystery thriller
  • Yosemite National Park setting
  • Search And Rescue responders
  • three women's lives intersect
  • secrets, lies, & betrayals

The narration was excellent, but the story left me slightly underwhelmed. It's challenging to pinpoint exactly what was lacking, but I struggled to connect with the characters, and the romantic subplot felt a tad contrived.

The narration by Amanda Dolan, Stacy Gonzalez, Tyla Collier, Machelle Williams, & Ali Andre Ali was performed well.

Cassie Peters has left her life in New York to become a search and rescue worker at Yosemite National Park - a job that she had years ago and involved her working on a case that still haunts her to this day. She quickly falls into old patterns and meets Petal the journalist and Jada the Instagram guru. When these three women cross paths, Cassie’s past catches up with her and there is no turning back.

This book was fast paced, unpredictable, and full of unstable, secretive, and dangerous characters. It was gripping and full of hidden agendas and jaw-dropping twists that you won’t see coming. Yosemite National Park was also brought to life with the atmospheric writing and made for an enjoyable backdrop.

I don't really have any idea what happened in the first half of the book because I really didn't care about all the talk about climbing and whatnot. There were also way too many characters to keep track of at first and it took me almost the entire book to figure out who was who and I still think I'm confused.

I will say the last maybe 20% had some really interesting messages and ones I think were important, but it was just done in such a weird way. I don't want to say much more so I don't spoil anything, but that's why I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 2. On to the next.

Cassie is running from her past and her husband, Kevin. But, she runs back to Yosemite, where 10 years earlier, as part of the Search and Rescue (SAR) team, she found a missing woman, Cameron. Now, she is back on SAR, hiding in plain sight. At the park, there are several campers that are long-term residents, including Petal and Jada. When several people go missing, Cassie starts receiving anonymous threatening texts and she fears Kevin is getting closer.
As the summer season winds down, Cassie is questioned about a crime. What happens next will surprise you.
