this was a very cute and sweet book. i am afraid that i like the movie a little too much and have seen it a few too many times to properly enjoy the book tho as i couldn’t help but compare it to the movie and they are very different. the magic was wonderful and the writing was lovely and it was so sweet to get more of howl and sophie but while i overall liked the book, i fear the changes the movie made strike my heart a little bit more.

Fun book of magic, mystery, and family. Sophie is a great character who learns so much about herself. Howl is an egotistical maniac in the best sort of way. Like Lego this book is fun for ages 10-99.
My favorute book by my favorite author which I have read many times and will read many more times!!!

book: very whimsical! honestly, I was just along for the ride. unfortunately, I knew the general premise of the movie so I went into this with high hopes for the romance (and was sorely disappointed). at not point did I know where this book was going to go! (for better or for worse) the magic system seemed fun, and I really liked calcifer and michael! the romance at the end made 0 sense to me, though.
movie: book club watched the movie together and WOW! 10000000x better omg. Howl.. dare I say bird (like lowkey bird) howl could get it? alright, I'm putting myself in time out. but the movie was way better than the book.

This was my first time reading the book (I am an adult! But I never read the book or watched the movie as a kid). I enjoyed it - the characters were complicated but generally like able. I liked Sophie a great deal, kind of knew the ultimate pairing from the start but it still didn’t compel me as a relationship that much. I found the story fun, though!
