4.2 AVERAGE

3.5. I mean, it’s a SFF classic for a reason. I should read more books from the 80s so there’s more Russians in them.

I had several significant issues with the book. It was very formulaic and predictable at times, and I am a bit sick of reading about child prodigies who never do anything wrong and are literal geniuses. The twists were not anything crazy but were fun. My biggest thing is I massively needed these characters to be aged up by 6-10 years each. In my head they were all aged up. It’s just too much to suspend disbelief like that (for me). I also personally think if I was writing this book I would have made some different choices but honestly for a book from the 80s it kind of tracks.
