The subject matter was interesting and the book was informative, but this is my least favourite type of history book: trying to gain the reader's sympathy by being vulgar and hating on rich white men.
slow-paced
Turns out I'm not as interested in the Romans definition of murder as I thought I would be.

A book that lives up to its brilliant title, yes it is packed with examples told in a witty, approachable style that is based in rigourous and intelligent scholarship, it succeeds in giving life to Ancient Rome, but its greatest success is to give a sense of the profoundly alien nature of Roman values and society.
