Nothing against the book or any of the content. I actually really like how the information was presented and the authors voice. It was just a lot of long names and stories that ran together meaning as an audiobook I couldn’t keep up and found myself zoning out a lot and missing entire ideas. Because of the content I don’t think I could see myself reading it as a physical book either. If ancient Rome is something you care about I think you would be more invested in this but for me it was just slightly too much to enjoy.

This was a lot of things: laught out loud funny, extremely fascinating, rich history, bizarre truth, and sadly a bit tedious. I enjoyed enough to finish and may read her again. I think I may do an audiobook next time.

Dnf-ing, like I said in my update, I can't stand books that talk about their own subject matter like it's boring or treat the reader like they're stupid, you can insult yourself all you like and be as un-confident in what you chose to write as you like, but don't drag me into it.

The very conversational style of this book might have annoyed me if I read it on paper, but it’s an excellent audio book. The reader is very good.

Oof, this was a bit of a slog. Not a bad book by any means, but rather dry at times, and the attempts at humor ran thin after a while. When you're reading all about murder after murder after murder, any sort of schtick to lighten things eventually falls flat.
