Not as an enjoyable read as some of her other books. It was very slow.

Napoleonic Wars with dragons!

Great character development, I love the intricacies of how military life would have to adapt to dragons.

I loved this sweet, wholesome read!! The dragon/captain relationships were so tender and sweet and silly I was grinning and giggling during those bits of dialogue. This was such a perfect palette cleanser and book-slump-ender lol. The plot was engaging, the characters felt real and the ending was gripping!!

This was recommended to me in my local bookshop, and something I wouldn’t have picked up on y own, but don’t regret buying one bit. This is like a ‘How to train your dragon’ but set in a more modern day era. As someone who knows almost nothing of the history in the 1800’s which is when this book is set, I loved it. I haven’t ever read anything like it before, and that is meant in the best way possible.
Social issues such as the potential engagement between Laurence and another woman was dealt with very well and we get to see a more vulnerable side to a man and an insight to his personal thoughts which wouldn’t have been portrayed in person at that time, and I really liked that being added in.
The plot was engaging throughout and I loved seeing how Laurence’s character developed as the novel progressed and in what order the events happened; it all happened for good reasons and at the right times, and that can sometimes be hard to find in many novels.
As ‘How to train your dragon’ is a comfort series for me, this was one of the books that got me out of a recent reading slump, and was like a warm hug every time I read it. The ideas in the novel and how dragons were used and integrated into society was very well developed and I hadn’t read similar in ideas before (such as the people that rode on the dragons and what happened in battle).

It was a beautiful book that I would recommend to any fantasy and dragon loving person, and something I would defiantly come back to to reread again.

I've done it. I've found a book about dragons that I've genuinely enjoyed. Hopefully the first of many, cause I don't plan to stop trying to find all the best I can. Temeraire has my heart.
