Rome and Julian are back for another adventure, and this time the enemy is up close and personal. Having discovered their true synergy and unlocked their full powers, Rome and Julian set out to find more allies and talismans.

Overall, I enjoyed this latest installment in the Talisman series. The plot is clever and captivating, and my favorite dragon, Rome, continues to grow and develop as a character and a mythical creature. The author has a great talent for world-building, and he adds more intriguing characters and nuances to this world. The plot is exciting and action-packed. The new character, Mander, is delightfully funny.

However, I do have some constructive criticism: I’m still not happy with the way Julian treats Mr. Jones, especially five books in. Julian’s character development seems to have digressed. I had great hope for him after the last book, but the spoiled brat has returned. Julian also spends a lot of time whining and complaining about another character in this latest installment of the series. I don’t find him to be a great influence on middle-grade readers, especially with his disrespectful attitude.

Desperate Tides, Desperate Measures by Brett Salter throws our heroes into unlikely new scenarios.

Will Julian and Rome ever see the end of this never-ending battle?

Julian Rider and Rome Lockheed performed the Great Synergy at the end of the last book and broke that Talisman. They returned to Florida, where they left their mentor, and somehow the old Talisman is working again (?), which makes them a formidable pair. Julian, Rome, Clay, Jericho, Krysta, and Camela are all trying to stop the Tyrant King from returning to their world and wreaking havoc everywhere. Each brings an essential part to their team, including Mrs. Case and her three Wind Dragons.

A lot has happened in this installment. I was left me scratching my head at some parts. I can't wait to see how this series ends. The flow of time seems off, and how in the world do Rome's parents not go looking for him at all?

Julian and Rome are the main heroes of the story since Rome seems to be the prophesized fire dragon from the Den of Volcana that will take down the Tyrant King and, of course, with Julian's help, his sworn brother in arms and literal brother as they share the same heart now. Clay, Jericho, Krysta, Camela, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Case, and the three Wind Dragons are all a part of the team that they have assembled to take down the Tyrant King once he comes through, along with the other Dragons that they have come across.

My only concern is how Mr. Salter will wrap this whole thing up.

Three Stars
I am giving Desperate Tides, Desperate Measures by Brett Salter three stars rating. I am also recommending it to all middle grade readers. There are some characters that I still find annoying, but it's all good. Mr. Salter has a good series on his hands.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Desperate Tides, Desperate Measures was another creative and interesting installment in the Talisman series. The stakes were raised as the House of Rider is being threatened and this resulted in an interesting new opponent. The action was, once again, described concisely yet vividly enough to draw you into the scene.

True to the Talisman series pattern, we meet more, new dragons - you can probably guess what type based on the title. This dragon encounter was a little different than previous dragons, but they are an enjoyable addition. We are also introduced to Elementals, another interesting addition to the narrative.

Overall this was an entertaining book with appeal to not only its attended audience but enjoyable for all ages.

This book made me feel conflicted... Not for the reasons you might be thinking, but I'm now all caught up and I want to know what happens...

This next installment in The Talisman series is just as good if not better than the previous ones..

We still have our now very familiar and well loved characters, Julian and Rome (still being Chivalrious, loyal, fun, and just plain adorable) kicking ass. Facing a "new" foe? I'll leave you with that mind twist.

But we also get Elementals... I love Elemental magic storylines, so this was like a gift for my bookworm self..

Brett Salter knows how to blend a lot of lore and myths into a fresh world.. it's a feat to be admired. I'll be stalking him lowkey until the next book comes out..LOL

One piece of advice. This is a great series to read with your kids, it works great for a broad audience. However, it needs to be read in order to fully appreciate it and get sucked into the world.. it's so really worth it and not a hardship at all.
