Another great addition to the Mercy Thompson series! I love that she can continue with this storyline and make each new book just as exciting.

I adore this series and everything about how Mercy has grown as a character throughout these thirteen books. The depth of the character, the consistency of her development amidst the constant action and adventure of the story. Briggs has remained consistent with the fun and grown in adventure every novel. She is an auto buy author in every format for me.

It was fun to revisit some of my comfort characters from years ago. I think I'll always be fond of this pack of werewolves, as I find it the found family trope at its best. This time, however, I was quite bothered by Adam being presented as a dominant and stunningly handsome but dangerous man. The focus was on him, Zee and Mercy, so it was emphasized again and again. I wish the other characters had been explored a little bit more instead.

The familiar banter & fast pace were just what I was looking for after the stressful trilogy I just finished, so thank you Ms. Briggs. Not one of my favorites of the series, and I'll chalk that up to two things. First, the books are getting a little weighed down by their own sprawling scaffolding. At this point there are a half dozen characters/entities we have to check in with for at least a scene or two who don't really add much to the book. Second, we always have someone/something scary to stop/fight, and there's always a little bit of mystery about exactly who it is or exactly what they're doing, but this one just felt extra vague for too long. We got there eventually, though!

I liked the tone of this book, more relatable humor (Larry and Madea), the slower pace and mystery with the vampires. It may have stalled a few times in the story line but maybe that was just me- home sick with Covid. I was ready to take a break(nap) when we got into the “spiders in the feet” removal. Had me hooked!

As always, super creative with the plot and the characters (supernatural), the world building, etc. I hope someday we can get Samuels story. He seems to always be on the run and in trouble? It would be an interesting read. And maybe Charles and Anna crossed in there?

It was great to have the “visions” from Stefan and Wulfe to help visualize the history. And Wulfe doesn’t want to hurt Mercy, yet Stefan tells her to “Be afraid”. Where are we going with that Patricia???!

It’s been a while since I read a Mercy story so it’s hard to compare from previous ones but it’s nice to see her secure in her life with Adam and secure with the Pack. It gives her a strong platform and it was validating to have outsiders remark on how the pack had changed because of her. Her hard work is paying off.

I love how she is still a mechanic despite her family and Pack obligations and with Zee helping out there is no end to story fodder. She also is a trickster with Coyote as her father, I liked how she handled Warren when he snapped at her. Hilarious!

There are only a few authors that are an auto buy for me, PB is one of these. I initially resisted reading this series since I knew it would cost me (like 8 books behind before I started) but looking back, I don’t regret a dollar spent on it.

Oh- and it’s not over yet folks! More story still to come!

Loved this one. The lore, the story, the build up, the conclusion.. ahhh!!

And that was some little bomb we were left with.

I need the next book
