It’s a slow old-fashioned mystery. I enjoyed it though I’m not sure about the ending.

I couldn’t really get into it as it is a dated novella with the Bond-like character always criticizing the females appearance and sizing them up for sexual preference. It was also confusing as to what was even happening in the story because of the pet names versus the human names. Might be an easier physical read than an audiobook so you could keep track better.

I was very disappointed with this book, and I have enjoyed several in the Richard Jury series. The usual characters were not as involved, and too many people were suspects.
SPOILER ALERT!! The ending was quite disturbing and wrapped up the story abruptly. I expected more from Martha Grimes.

There are some faults with this mystery in Grimes' Richard Jury series but I still enjoyed reading it. I like the main characters in the series even though this one doesn't seem to hang together as well as some others I have read.
I love Richard Jury. This was ok, not as good as many of the others in the series. It was a little convoluted story times. I found myself forgetting what the mystery was at times.
The ending is open for interpretation and I'm not thrilled with that. Feels different from her other books; she has definitely steered away from the light-hearted quirky cozys with which I am familiar. It also felt as though Jury was acting out of character with a witness.
