I heard this was a good book but didn’t expect it to be this good. It has a good magic system , which is perfectly coupled with a political system. The only thing that I wish was different (which may come in the 2nd book) is I wish there was more personal growth from Hilo.

I didn’t care about any of the characters, developed no connection to any of them.

I was really disappointed as I heard such great things but I'm 7 hours into this book (audiobook) and I don't feel like much has happened. I don't like any of the characters and some of the relationships and intimate scenes seem really slimy to me. 
Unique magic system, and the world building is cool. Just didn't like the people or care what they were up to.
